Commercial Pet Product Photography for Chutoro Pet Treats
Creating commercial photography for a pet brand is about more than getting a great photo of a dog next to a package. The images need to capture the personality of the brand, showcase the product clearly, work across different marketing platforms, and account for the unpredictability of working with animal talent.
For a recent commercial shoot with Chutoro Pets, we created a colorful library of dog and cat product and lifestyle photography at The Salty Dog Studio in Costa Mesa, California. The shoot featured Chutoro’s freeze-dried pet treats alongside three cat models, two dog models, and a couple of dog owners.
We shot tethered throughout the production so the Chutoro team could view the images in real time and make adjustments as we worked. Over about 3.5 hours, we moved through multiple animals, products, colorful sets, and compositions to create a varied library of content for the brand.
Chutoro was created around a simple idea: better treats made from real, recognizable ingredients. Inspired by the founders’ own pets, Chubs and Toro, the brand pairs clean, human-grade ingredients with colorful packaging and a playful personality. Their visual identity was a natural fit for the type of colorful, personality-driven pet photography we love creating at The Salty Dog Studio, and gave us a really fun foundation for the shoot.
Rather than photographing the products only as traditional still lifes, we built the campaign around the relationship between pets and treats — dogs waiting (sometimes patiently) for a bite, cats sniffing out bowls filled with tasty treats, feeding moments, clean product-forward compositions, and plenty of personality.
The result was a collection of 30 final commercial images designed to give Chutoro versatile content for its website, social media, marketing, and other brand needs. Several of the photographs are now featured throughout Chutoro’s website, including imagery used prominently on the brand’s homepage.

Working with animal talent requires flexibility, patience, and a little creativity. Every dog and cat responds differently on set, so we work with each animal’s personality while still keeping the product, lighting, and overall creative direction consistent.
For Chutoro, we created a mix of playful interactions, feeding shots, pet portraits, and product-focused images across several colorful sets. Treats, bowls, owners, and handlers helped us get natural expressions and interactions while keeping the experience fun and comfortable for the animals.
The variety gave Chutoro a cohesive collection of commercial dog and cat photography with plenty of options for their website, social media, advertising, and future marketing.
